Muizenberg

Description

The lively seaside suburb of Muizenberg recently had a radical facelift, restoring some of its glamour and popularity on the False Bay side of the Cape Peninsula. Attracting the rich and famous in its hey-day, including Agatha Christy who surfed here, it was the trendiest beachfront in Cape Town.

Muizenberg still retains some of its old charm with a quirky fusion of grand Art Deco buildings and brightly painted bathing huts on the beach. Beginner surfers and longboard riders flock to Surfer's Corner for the warmer and gentler waves. The easy conditions make it one of the best places on the globe to learn to surf and there are plenty of surf schools on the beachfront.

Eclectic and eccentric restaurants, cafes, a dinner-theatre, surf shops, boutiques, second-hand shops and a waterslide line the main road and beachfront. Amble on the ‘Historical Mile’ from the Edwardian-style Muizenberg Station to Kalk Bay and see Posthuys, one of the oldest buildings in South Africa, Rhodes Cottage and numerous venerable buildings along the coastline. Stop in for tea at the Natale Labia Museum on the way.

Perfectly situated and an ideal base for tourists to explore the area since it's rather central for sightseeing tours. In Muizenberg you'll find shops, banks, a post office and restaurants.

Muizenberg is a nice place to stay with family and children. Besides that, learning how to surf is amazing. Very good and patient teachers! By night there is not much to do. There are 2 bars/cafes and a couple of restaurants. Good atmosphere though!

This is a relaxed town with clean beaches and a great part of South Africa.

Muizenberg gives you a combination of the mountain, the sea and the vlei. The vlei is the perfect spot for a picnic while the beach is absolutely lovely for taking a stroll; you can even take your dog. There are always plenty of kite-surfers and fishermen along the water's edge.

Muizenberg isn't as beautiful as it once was, but still remains a favourite among surfers and beach lovers. Sporting some of the most popular surf spots in Cape Town, this is an ideal location to learn how to ride a wave, or catch a quick meal at Knead. Kids will also love the many activities available. Be sure not to miss the morning market every Sunday.
