Dunns Castle is nestled in the heart of the Swartland at the edge of the unique mountain range that stands as an island lies Piketberg, home to Dunn’s Castle, designed by Herbert Baker for George Dunn. Piketburg is about an hour’s drive from Cape Town and a half hour’s drive from the West Coast. It stands alone in the middle of undulating fields of wheat, green vineyards and flowering canola. Dunn’s Castle was built in the late 1890’s and offers cosy rooms with Victorian finishes.

Each room is complete with country décor and a fireplace, three with double beds and two with twin beds. At present we can accommodate 54 guests on a bed and breakfast or dinner, bed and breakfast basis. 19 self-catering cottages with secure parking have recently been added. The Castle offers a peaceful retreat from the busy lifestyle we all experience. Enjoy a refreshing drink on the patio and gaze out on the amazing view of the entire Swartland.

Having lived in Piketberg I was always curious about Dunns Castle; what is the story behind the name? To my delight, the staff was very cheerful despite our late arrival, and helpful when I had absentmindedly forgotten some items at home. The room was surprisingly spacious and had great views over the fields. Piketberg can get extremely hot and the room was the perfect temperature and retreat. It was beautiful. The venue is breathtaking. The staff very friendly and helpful. Bev is a gem! It would be nice for the self-catering rooms to have fridges but that wasn't too much of a problem. We will definitely come back here!
