The Cottage at Baker's Kop

Description

This is a delightful, self-catering stone cottage located on a working dairy farm, ideally situated for stopovers or to use as a base from which to explore the Northern Drakensberg, Clarens, Golden Gate, and the Eastern Free State.

It is set on a farm next to an excellent tar road 10 km from Harrismith, so visitors do not have to travel on long, bumpy farm roads to reach the cottage. The cottage is spacious and charmingly furnished with a fully-equipped kitchenette with microwave, small stove, fridge, and barbecue facilities. It sleeps two in a queen-size bed with an electric blanket and a luxurious down duvet with quality bed linen. The large living area features a cosy fireplace for winter nights.

The farm has lovely views and walks, and there are numerous activities to be enjoyed in this scenic area, from tree top canopy tours to abseiling, rock climbing, horse riding, 4x4 trails, hiking, cycling and mountain biking, rowing, fishing, sailing, bird-watching and much more.

The farm nestles at the foot of a landmark mountain called Baker's Kop, and has excellent access on tar roads to Clarens, Bethlehem, Kestel, Phutadijaba, QwaQwa, Harrismith, Golden Gate, Sterkfontein Dam, Oliviershoek Pass, and the Drakensberg.

Check-In  02:00 PM   Check-Out 10:30 AM

Character: This is genuine, rustic-country charm in an old stone building. Snug down duvet, an open fireplace, antique furniture and lovely views on a working farm. Fall asleep under the stars that seem impossibly close and wake to the sound of birdsong.

Location: Between Johannesburg and Durban; Harrismith and QwaQwa on an excellent tar road. Ideal for business travellers or holidaymakers en route to major centres via the spectacular Maluti Route.

Great Outdoors: There are many outdoor activities to enjoy in the district from birdwatching to water sports and angling on the magnificent Sterkfontein Dam or cycling, hiking, horse riding and exploring the arty mountain village of Clarens.

Relaxation: This is a perfect place to escape the pressures of city life. You will find plenty of enjoyable outdoor activities in the district or just relax with a book and listen to the birds.

We thoroughly enjoyed our three days at the cottage. Delightfully equipped, superb location and the most comfortable bed in South Africa. The calves grazing outside the window looked as relaxed as we were. Highly recommended.

It is a beautiful farm and very quiet. It is great for a proper getaway from the city. We will be back.

We really enjoyed our stay. The views are magnificent and the cottage is very cosy, clean and interesting. The fireplace was also a hit in the cold and misty weather. Thank you Bev!
