Memel Guest House provides an ideal weekend break for those seeking the tranquility of a winelands valley farm. The fertile upper reaches of the Breede River Valley are a tapestry of vineyards, olives, fruit, vegetables and wheat, surrounded by majestic mountain ranges. Situated about 10 km from Worcester on the Robertson road, guests are greeted by one of the valley's most well-known landmarks. The Pampoen Farm Stall, overflowing with its plump orange pumpkins, points the way to the turn-off and sets the scene for a magical winelands experience.

The guest house is located on a farmstead that dates back to 1857 and was built on the original site of a water mill. The river may have dried up and the mill-ground grain long been forgotten, but the historic building has been lovingly refurbished to create a comfortable home away from home. Original clay walls and thatched roof enclose a guest house that preserves its charming and authentic Cape Dutch heritage.

Memel Guest House offers self-catering accommodation for up to eight guests in three bedrooms; two double bedrooms containing queen-size beds and a third bedroom with a single bed and a double bunk bed. Features include a cosy lounge with a log fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, an indoor dining room or enclosed verandah for balmy outdoor dining, as well as barbecue facilities.

Family: Memel is a working farm surrounded by vineyards and is also home to a host of farmyard animals. Sheep, pigs, donkeys, geese and ducks will delight the children.

Wonderful stay

Ons het heerlik gebly - daar was van absoluut alles in die huis, en die 'setting' was baie mooi en rustig. Die diens was uitstekend en vriendelik. Ons sal beslis weer daar gaan bly! We had a wonderful stay - the house had absolutely everything, and the setting was very beautiful and peaceful. The service was outstanding and friendly. We will definitely stay again.
