Eco House in Gambia

Description

Surrounded by its own private garden, this unusual house offers a quiet retreat in the African bush, away from the crowds yet with all the facilities of the small and friendly Footsteps Eco-Lodge nearby.

The house is open plan with a high thatched roof that creates a cool and airy ambiance. The kitchen is equipped with a hob, a fridge and a sink and the house also has a dining and comfortable lounge area. There are two double rooms furnished with queen-sized beds that share a spacious bathroom with a shower. The house is solar powered with both AC and DC but the system does not support power greedy appliances.

Guests can relax on the shady veranda with a small table and chairs or in the thatched 'bantaba' with hammocks and sun loungers. Because of the fire risk, the house is a non-smoking area. Guests can also make use of the adjacent eco-lodge's facilities including the bar, restaurant and plunge pool at no additional costs.

Transport is available and guests can make use of two bicycles and taxis are readily available. A driver and car can also be easily arranged for longer trips. Banjul International Airport is situated an hour away and airport transfers are free for stays of one week or more. Guests are also met at the airport.

Deserted sandy beaches and Gunjur village, with its market and local shops, are less than a kilometre away. At Eco House, guests can relax, go beach-combing, swimming, bird watching and walking. Organized bird walks can be arranged at the lodge as well as beach-fishing with tuition and tackle hire, drumming and cultural visits to villages and local schools. For longer excursions guests can enjoy river trips, visits to the markets and a hands-on reptile farm with Gambian snakes, nature reserves and a number of small museums and art galleries.
