Description

Bush House is a small eco lodge located in the east coast Toamasina region of Madagascar, within the Canal des Pangalanes lake district, where fresh water lakes merge with the Indian Ocean. A unique blend of nature offers both marine worlds within walking distance. Inland, there is a beautiful and quiet sweet water lake with a sand beach, while within 5 km behind a narrow stretch of land separating the lake and the Indian Ocean, you can hear the low roar of the waves. Both spectacles are within view of our bungalows.

As the name implies, Bush House may be a little difficult to find as it can only be reached by boat, helicopter, train, or 4×4 wheel drive. Once there however, it will be a rewarding experience and worth the effort. Watch the lemurs, discover the natural botanical gardens, take a low-impact hike tour, or just enjoy the peace and quiet away from the mainstream tourist industry.

Bush House offers 11 bungalows built from local materials with simple style and handcrafted furnishings. The bungalows contain a double bed with mosquito net and private shower and toilet, and all bungalows boast a large terrace with a spectacular view over the lake. The shower water is heated over a flame in a small water tank behind each bungalow, while electricity is powered by a generator and is available in the morning and evening.

Our small outside restaurant, which is sheltered under palm roofing, serves Malagasy, Creole and French food. The bar offers a selection of drinks and cocktails, and of course the traditional local rum assortment. We hope to have the opportunity having you stay with us during your next visit to Madagascar.
