Description

If you think that having no tent should stop you from actually going camping, think again. This is longer the case with the arrival of Biesievlak Cottages and Campsite. The hassle and logistics of a camping weekend in the Citrusdal Valley is now a thing of the past. The slogan, “you only bring food and clothes,” eliminates any preconceived idea you have about camping – leaking tents, missing poles and pegs, hard ground and sand fleas.

To set the scene, we have a farm located about 20 km from Citrusdal with a campsite located right on the banks of the Olifants River – so we’re not talking dodge municipal setting. We’re talking wide open spaces, green grass, gorgeous sunsets, languid days filled with swimming, braaing and getting to know your neighbours.

Each 'camping village' (maximum six spread along a 200 m stretch) comprises a 9m x 9m Bedouin free form marquee with excellent views over the water, and one to three canvas tents pitched underneath and equipped with blow-up mattresses, cotton percale bedding, blankets, towels and extra sleeping bags. You have your own braai grid and utensils, chairs, tables, electric light, cooler box and more. Every village has its own power point and there are hammocks - lest you forget that camping is hard work. Ablutions (hot showers and flush toilets) are communal, so is the fridge for the frosties. Talk about roughing it in style.

Each cottage has two rooms; one with two single beds and one with a double bed - all have cotton percale bedding. In the cottage you have your own kitchen with washing up area, a fridge-freezer, a microwave, a stove, a toaster and kettle and all utensils. You have a veranda that has a table, a Weber, an umbrella and beautiful views over the river. Guests share the communal ablutions.

Awesome weekend

It was a great weekend, great setting and best of all, was the fact that everything is setup before you get there. We will highly recommend it to anyone, even those who don't camp often.
