Description
Wet, wild and frigid all the way!
The Windhoek Berg River Canoe Marathon is considered the 'Comrades' of extreme canoe racing in South Africa. Accept the challenge and take on the toughest canoeing event in the country, if not in the world. You will enjoy the local hospitality and stunning countryside during the adventure.
The race gets underway from Paarl, following a time trial the previous day to settle the seeding of top competitors. After four tough days and 240 kilometres, the marathon ends at Velddrif on the West Coast. Paddlers speed through the spectacular winelands and Swartberg region, with festive overnight stops at Zonquasdrift near Gouda, Misverstand Dam, and Zoutkloof.
The Time Trial paddle splashes off on 12 July followed by Day One on 13 July and finishing with Day Four on 16 July 2011. Categories for surf skis and separate age categories for ladies will depend on the number of entries. The Time Trial will be raced from Paarl Canoe Club down river.
